Rockford Mom Fighting Back Against Bullying

- Rockford- The last day of class at Riverdahl Elementary is scheduled for June 9th; But Monica Rodriguez pulled her 7 year old daughter Makayla out early because of constant bullying.

Makayla Rodriguez says “(the kids) “hit me, and kick men, and throw sand in my eyes.”

And those beatings come at the hands of boys. That makes her afraid to defend herself. Her mother is transferring her to McIntosh in the fall. She tried reaching out to Riverdahl’s principal for help, but says it did not get far.

Monica Rodriguez says “my husband and I went to the principal and she asked what my daughter did to cause it, and (Makayla) went to her teacher. The teacher told the kid not to do it and that’s about as far as it went. I went as far as going and standing out on the playground everyday during recess just to make sure it didn’t happen.”

Rodriguez is holding a protest Thursday in front of the Rockford Public School District’s administrative building. She and several concerned parents are hoping to put a stop to bullying in public schools.

The meeting will be held from 8-5 at the RPS administrative building. Monica plans to be there by 1:00pm. For more information you can visit their Facebook page:
