Rockford Pastors Preach Peace

They believe peace can be achieved despite differences in opinion

ROCKFORD - Pastors from several Rockford churches came together to preach about peace on Sunday.

The event was held at Third Presbyterian Church off Custer Ave. in Rockford. The church's pastor, Stephen Bowie, was joined by Pastor Rebecca White Newgren from SecondFirst Church, and Reverend Matthew Johnson from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockford.

The three talked about ways to bring peace to the community, despite differences in opinion. Pastor Newgren says she believes if people open their minds and to listen to others, peace can be achieved.

"We can have really good conversations with one another across party lines, across all sorts of divisions," said Newgren. "That we could have really good conversations, and I think that out of those conversations, peace will begin to swell up."

Newgren says Sunday night's event was organized to promote peace and harmony around the holidays.
