UPDATE: Innocent Bystander In Critical Condition After Gunfight on Street

One person critically hurt in car-to-car shooting.

ROCKFORD - UPDATE (4/6):  Rockford police have released new information on the car-to-car shooting on N. Longwood Road that left a bystander critically hurt.

They say the 69-year-old victim remains in critical condition in a local hospital.

Police have also recovered the two vehicles involved based on citizen tips, but have not made any arrests.

UPDATE: Rockford Police has released a surveillance photo of the two vehicles they believe are involved in a gunfight that left an innocent bystander in critical condition.

The photo shows two SUVs, a blue Mazda and a maroon Nissan.  They fired at each other while driving in the northbound lanes of Longwood near 251 around 4:30pm Wednesday.  Police remained on scene until about 9pm.  They tell us they were gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.

At least one person is injured after a shooting on Rockford's east side.

The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of N. Longwood and Rural Streets. Police describe the incident as a car-to-car shooting.

One person has been sent to the hospital, the extent of their injuries has not been released. Police say the victim was an unattended target hit by a stray bullet, and was not inside either of the suspect vehicles.

At this time, no arrests have been made.
