Students from military families could have an easier time getting into state schools soon.
Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon wants lawmakers to support a new bill aimed at helping military students transition from school to school. Simon says the hassles of school transfers are a top concern for military personnel who have children.
"I want to make sure that every kid whose mom and dad is transferred to an Illinois military base is able to start school right away at the level of school they been at and be successful from day one" says Simon.
In most states, military students enter the same grade level at their new schools and keep their credit. Illinois doesn't offer the same assurances.
