When local baseball teams finally step out on to the grassy outfield, they know spring is finally here. For other Stateline residents, spring has not sprung until they have had their first scoop of homemade ice cream from Dairy Haus in Rockton.
Carolyn Dylak, who has been going to Dairy Haus for decades, said she looks at the opening of her favorite ice cream shop as a sign the weather is changing for the better. “When Dairy Haus is open, summer is not far behind.”
Locals have been waiting to see the open sign outside of Dairy Haus, for months. Brent Murray, the owner of Dairy Haus said “It was such a long winter, I think everyone was waiting for something to say, okay now it is spring, and it is going to be good weather.”
Locals say that nothing says spring quite like homemade ice cream from Dairy Haus “we have been making it for 31 years, and we literally make it right in the back room, we make it fresh, we freeze it, and then we are serving it the next day” said Murray.
From the back of the store straight to the cone, it’s no wonder locals have to get a taste.
“We make over 50 ice creams, and we cycle them in and out, so people have literally been waiting for 6 months for some of their favorite flavors.” said Murray
With so many flavors to choose from its hard to pick a favorite. Some say it is the Salty Carmel Cashew, while others get a double scoop of the Maple Bacon ice cream.
Although everyone has a different favorite flavor, the open sign outside of Dairy Haus has everyone in the mood for spring. “It is busy all summer long, it is the start of spring here in Rockton.” said a local.
