Stateliners Celebrate Their Sobriety

- Rockford- Brandon Baney spoke to Stateliners on his previous heroin addiction. He’s been clean for more then eight years.

When speaking about coming clean, Baney says “there’s a lot to live for and there’s a lot that I need to do. I have a much bigger picture. I’m here to change the world. As silly as that may sound, that’s the reality of it. And I’m gonna start here in Rockford.”

The fifth annual Recovery Rally on the Rock River celebrated recovery from alcohol and drugs abuse. The event is held by the Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities, or TASC, They say substance abuse is a growing problem in the Stateline.

Kate Craig of TASC says “everybody is affected by addiction. Indirectly or directly, and recovery benefits everybody.”

Many organizations were on hand to give support to those in need, including the Rockford Health Council.

David Murray of the Rockford Health Council says “I see a lot of familiar faces here today of people who I work with and people who are involved in recovery with me. Seeing that today is just an excellent representation how my job isn’t just my job it’s my vocation.
