Stateliners Wing Out For Super Bowl

- ROCKFORD- Woodman’s supermarket was anything but empty on Super Bowl Sunday as Stateline customers piled in to stock up on their favorite Super Bowl snacks.

Tony Brown, the manager of Woodman’s meat department says people do not cut calories during Super Bowl.

"Meatballs, cocktail smokies, shrimp, people go all out for the Super Bowl parties."

When customers come in to shop for Super Bowl, Tony says they buy in bulk.

"One tray is probably good for three to four people. So if you have twenty people coming over, you have to pick up four or five of those and they usually get sold out pretty fast.”

Years of experience has taught Tony knows that even though people buy an array of snacks his department sells out of one item the fastest.

"Chicken wings are definitely the most popular."

In fact, Americans are expected to eat over 1 billion chicken wings during Super Bowl Sunday. At Woodman’s wings are flying off of the shelves.

"This morning I came in and there were no chicken wings there, there were no wings here, and there were no chicken wings there."

While some buy there wings and cook them up at home, others go to the local bars where they are expected to sell thousands of wings before the games ends.

Boomers bar and grille says that they are expecting to sell hundreds of wings throughout Sunday.

"I would estimate we will sell about 500 pounds of wings today.”

David Boge, the manager of RBI restraint and bar says that they will be selling wings by the case.

"15 cases of wings, a ton of carry out and delivery and this place will be packed."

Anyway you serve them, chicken wings are a Super Bowl staple.

"The buffalo hot, mango habanero, barbeque and honey bbq."
