Stop the Violence Rally Held to Protest Shootings in Rockford

ROCKFORD - Dozens showed up for a rally on Saturday that organizers hope will help to stop violence in Rockford.

Participants stood at the corner of Auburn and Central, holding signs saying 'put down the gun' and 'stop the violence' for all passerbys to see.

Members from Deliverance Crusaders Church organized the manifestation.

They're hoping demonstrations like these will help people across the city unite and stand together against the violence.

One participant we spoke to urged people to put the guns down, saying enough is enough.

"Because there's more shooting now than ever before," said Dorothy Hawthorne, a member of the church. "And we need to let these shooters know that we're not taking this anymore. We need to let them know that we're going to take back our city."

The group is planning another rally at a different intersection next week.
