ROCKFORD - A man is in custody after allegedly hitting a police officer with his car after being pulled over in Rockford.
Pierre McBride, 25, of Rockford, was pulled over by a Rockford Police officer early Saturday morning at Auburn Street and Sheridan Street. During the traffic stop, the officer saw suspected marijuana in McBride's car. He was removed from the car so officers could search it, but broke free from an officer, re-entered the car, and took off.
An officer was pulled along with the accelerating car for about five feet before he was able to let go. The car also struck the officer as it sped away. The officer was not hurt.
McBridge eventually crashed his car then fled on foot. Following a short chase, officers were able to catch him. He's now charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated fleeing and resisting arrest.
