ROCKFORD - Lazy lawn maintenance may be to blame for an accident that seriously injured a bicyclist.

It happened a little after 1 p.m. at the intersection of State Street and Meridian Road.

The driver of the car says he made a right turn onto State when he hit the bicyclist. He says he couldn't see the pedestrian because of tall grass at the corner.

"You know, we have all this high grass, everything going on, and nothing's being done around here," says Luis Oquendo, driver of the vehicle. "Accidents happening, people gettin' hurt."

Police say the victim is currently at Rockford Memorial Hospital with serious head injuries.
