Teen Hurt in 'Car Surfing' Incident

15-year-old girl taken to UW Madison for treatment as precaution

BELOIT - Beloit Police Officers are investigating an apparent 'car surfing' incident that left a 15-year-old girl with head injuries.

Police were called Sunday to the 1300 block of Grant St. at around noon to find the teen with what appeared to be minor head injuries and other abrasions.  She was taken to a nearby emergency room as a precaution, and then transported to UW Madison Hospital for further treatment even though the injuries appear to be not life threatening.

Police determined that she and other teens were riding on the side and back of a car in a manner known as car surfing which was being driven by a 16-year-old male.  They believe that as the driver was turning around, the victim fell off the vehicle and hit her head.

The driver, who was not identified because of his age, was cited for Reckless Driving Causing Bodily Harm, and Driving with No Insurance.

Police urge parents with teens to use the incident as an opportunity to discuss the dangers of such behavior even at low speeds.
