It happened in Earlville, a town northeast of Mendota in LaSalle county.
Officials say an EF-1 tornado with wind gusts as high as 110 mph caused the destruction. Earlville also saw 80-100 mph straight-line wind gusts.
All of the area lost power, though earlier this afternoon more than half the town's power had been restored. But the damage remains.
"We have identified at least 30 plus homes with various levels of damage, probably 8 to 10 of them with severe damage, some of them will be uninhabitable," said Mayor Mike Hall, Earlville.
No injuries were reported.
