Two-Car Crash in DeKalb Kills Rockford Man

Lee Mabins Jr., 22, was killed after the car he was riding in blew a stop sign.

DEKALB - A Rockford man is dead after the car he was riding in blew a stop sign in DeKalb.

Around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, a Mazda heading westbound on Twombly Road failed to stop at a stop sign at Nelson Road, causing a Toyota traveling south on Nelson to crash into the passenger side of the Mazda.

The man sitting in the passenger seat of the Mazda, Lee C. Mabins Jr., 22, of Rockford, was killed. The two drivers were both injured, but are expected to be okay.

The driver of the Mazda, Jimmy D. Lewis, 33, of Rockford, has been cited for disobeying a traffic device and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
