UPDATE (10/16/14): Investigators have ruled Hayes' death as a suicide.

"DNA evidence eliminates other subjects handling the weapon," says Chief Norm Jacobs of the Beloit Police Department.  "Comments by the victim prior the shooting are suggestive of suicidal thoughts."

The Rock County Coroner also says the gunshot wound is consistent with a self-inflicted wound.

UPDATE (2:46pm): Beloit Police confirm the victim, 20 year-old Hykyme Hayes, has died as a result of his injury.

BELOIT - Police arrived on scene on the 500 block of 8th Street shortly after midnight Thursday morning to find a man lying down on the sidewalk, suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to Mercy Hospital in Janesville for injuries that are considered to be life threatening.

The area was blocked off briefly this morning, but has since been reopened.
