UPDATE: The victim from Tuesday's crash has now been identified as 51-year old Dennis Graham. The Winnebago County coroner says he lived in the Rockton region.
ROCKFORD – Freeport Road is quiet again after a flurry of activity Tuesday afternoon following a fatal motorcycle accident that killed a Winnebago County man dead.
“Officers found a subject who had been ejected from his motorcycle after striking a vehicle head on, near the 3200 block of Freeport road in Rockton. That subject has since been pronounced deceased.” Said Deputy Chief Scott Meyers.
Officers say the man crossed over the center line on Freeport road in Rockton, and collided head on with a woman driving a Ford Focus. The driver of the Focus was transported from the scene for non-life threatening injuries.
The motorcycle driver was alive in the moments following the crash, and had been communicating with paramedics. He succumbed to his injuries before arriving at the hospital.
Some drivers say it is difficult to drive on Freeport Road because of a large curve, and police are investigating to see if the curves played a factor in the crash using accident reconstruction techniques.
A Rockton resident who lives near the scene of the crash and spoke with Eyewitness News told us that drivers often hit high speeds on Freeport Road.
“You better look both ways because it always seems like someone is coming either one way or another,” said Meyers.
ROCKTON -- Winnebago County Sheriffs Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident in Rockton.
The crash happened in the 3200 block of Freeport Road around 3:00 Tuesday afternoon. Police say that a man from Winnebago County was driving his motorcycle here crossed over the center line and crashed head on with a Ford Focus. The road was blocked off for several hours.
The man was responsive when officers arrived to the scene, but he died from his injuries inside of the ambulance.
The Rockton Fire Department called a helicopter to air lift the man from the scene to a hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. Police say he was not wearing a helmet or protective gear at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Ford Focus was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Officers are investigating the crash scene. The Winnebago County coroner is working to contact the victims family.
