UPDATE: Prayer Vigil To Be Held For Karen Williams


UPDATE (8/22/14): A prayer vigil is scheduled for 5pm on Friday in the main parking lot of OSF on E. State Street, where Karen Williams is receiving treatment for her injuries.  Many alumni from Jefferson High School, which is where Williams attended, are expected to appear tonight.  According to investigators, Williams is still in critical condition.  Friends report she's "not doing very well."

UPDATE (8/21/14): Illinois State Police has identified the men involved in last night's violent incident:

  • Ronaldo Fort, 19
  • DeAngelo Brooks, 19
  • Bryant Locke, 20

All three men are charged with armed robbery.  The charge stems from a robbery at a US Cellular in Belvidere.  The store manager declined to go on camera.  But, says the store has installed security cameras because of the incident.

Authorities have also identified the crash victim.  She is 42 year-old Karen Williams of Rockford.  She is still in critical condition at a local hospital.  Stay tuned to Eyewitness News.  We'll have more on this case as it develops.

UPDATE: A woman is in critical condition after a vehicle fleeing from police officers crashed into her car.

CHERRY VALLEY - A police chase that started in Boone County ended with a crash and shots being exchanged between police and the gunmen.

The chase began earlier that night after 3 suspects robbed a cellular store in Boone County. Police tell Eyewitness News that these may be the same men that robbed other cell phone stores in the past few months. A gun belonging to one of the suspects was recovered from the scene.

The suspects, described as three black males riding in a white Pontiac, fled from police at speeds of over 100 miles per hour. They crashed into the victim's car on South Perryville Road. Two of the suspects climbed out and ran into the Menards parking lot, where gunfire was exchanged with police. All three suspects were arrested and are now in custody; two of them were hospitalized for their injuries.
