ROCKFORD - A suspect who ran from police is in surgery after being shot three times.
The Winnebago County Sheriff's Dept. tell Eyewitness News officers were initially sent to Vincent Avenue for a disorderly conduct call when a white SUV drove by. Police say inside the vehicle was the person they were looking for.
The officer was able to pull the vehicle over on Westmoreland Avenue. Afterwards, two men ran away from the car in opposite directions.
The deputy chased one of the men to a nearby home. The suspect fired one shot, but missed. The deputy fired back and hit the suspect three times, twice in the legs and once in the shoulder.
The suspect is now in surgery at Rockford Memorial Hospital. He is expected to survive.
The second suspect involved is still at large. Police describe him as a white male, wearing dark jeans and possibly a Chicago Bears jersey. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.
