ROCKFORD -- A shots fired call led to a serious crash with three people injured. The preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma to the head.
It began just before 1am when officers in the new Geo-policing District 2 were called to an area near the intersection of Kishwaukee Street and College Avenue. Witnesses had told police some people in a dark colored Monte Carlo were involved.
Upon arriving, officers located a maroon Monte Carlo in the 1700 block of Kishwaukee Street, which they say then left the area at a high rate of speed eastbound on 15th Avenue. Near the intersection of 15th Avenue and 7th Street, the Monte Carlo left the roadway and struck a tree.
Police say a 17-year-old Rockford male was ejected from the vehicle upon impact and was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, a 25-year-old Rockford man, was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
A 16-year-old Rockford female was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injures.
No charges have been filed, although the incident remains under investigation.
