WTVO/WQRF - The state credits its own housing program for a spike in first time homebuyers.
Since the Welcome Home Illinois program launched in April, the state says 2,830 people have taken advantage, helping to set all-time records in homeownership.
"Hundreds of people that have been sidelined from the home buying market are taking advantage" says Gov. Pat Quinn (D). "By giving hardworking residents the opportunity to achieve their dream and buy a home, we are strengthening and stabilizing communities across Illinois and driving our economy forward."
Experts say the key to any economic revival, both at the local and state levels, relies on first time homebuyers.
