Rockford- Old man winter puts another dent in the morning commute. Last Sunday’s snowfall forced the city of Rockford to delay opening West State Street and Central Avenue for another week.
Rockford Director of Public Works Tim Hanson says “we couldn’t do the striping out there so what they’re doing is they’re going to try to be striping the street tomorrow. I don’t know if that’s gonna occur with the snow coming in tonight. But sometime over the next week they’ll get the striping in.”
Hanson stressed the importance of having these roads open during the winter. Hanson says “our plows use central to get up to the north part of town or get across town. So it’s important that we do open up Central Avenue.”
Meanwhile, the Morgan Street Bridge is set to open this coming Tuesday. Local businesses like Computax Services.
Computax Services worker Liliana Lopez says “most of the customers would complain…about 50% of the customers would complain about the Morgan Street Bridge being closed.”
And with tax season approaching, Lopez hopes a quicker path to her store provides a boost in business…and helps customers get in on time.”
Lopez says “most of them would be having to arrive late to their appointments, about 10-15 minutes. But I’m sure with them opening the bridge, it will be pretty good.”
