WGN Radio's Bill and Wendy Show Broadcast Live from RFD

ROCKFORD- WGN Radio's Bill and Wendy show hit the airwaves from the Chicago-Rockford international airport.

"Just creating an awareness letting people in Chicago know about the Airfest, having them hopefully come down for the weekend and watch it," said WGN Afternoon Co-Host Bill Leff.

The live broadcast is part of a plan to get people from outside of the Rockford region to check out Airfest 2014.

"We have created great relationships with local media partners, but also regional media partners through TV and radio," said Chicago Rockford International Airport Deputy Director Amy Ott.

Ott says 40% of this year's Airfest ticket sales came from outside of the Stateline. She says there are even several ticket holders from Germany.

"We're always trying to reach further and further. It’s such a big event not only for our region, but I think it's going to be one of the best  air shows this summer  in the whole United States,” Ott.

WGN Radio Afternoon Co-Host Wendy Snyder was pleasantly surprised by the airport. She explains she'll definitely be making another trip to the Forest City.

"First time out here, usually I go to O’Hare and even Midway has gotten so big, but this is a nice convenient thing and you can play on the carousels they'll let you do it," said Wendy.

And as the first Airfest pilots arrive, volunteers are starting to put the facility together. Everyone is getting ready for this weekend's big show.
