Around 3am, officers called to the home of Wisconsin State Trooper Carl Rowan found his wife, Hollie Rowan, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Officer Rowan was bleeding from a knife wound to his hand.
The Wisconsin State Trooper told officers arriving on the scene that his wife was inside their home with a gun.
According to Chief David Moore, of the Janesville Police Department, "Officers enter the home, and found Mrs. Rowan dead from an apparent gunshot wound. The investigation reveals that early in the morning mister and misses’ Rowan had a domestic dispute. During the dispute Mrs. Rowan allegedly stabbed Mr. Rowan in the hand, and then stabbed herself in the arm."
Authorities say it appears Hollie Rowan committed suicide.
The couple did not have a history of domestic violence. The couple had two children together, but three minors were at the home at the time of the dispute.
"The conclusive information shows that trooper Rowan was not involved with the gunshot wound death of his wife. Actually, absent the death of Mrs. Rowan, she would have been arrested for domestic violence," said Chief Moore.
Chief Moore says Mrs. Rowan has tried to commit suicide in the past, but some say even with help it might not have been prevented.
"Every domestic violence situation or incident is unique, and to know the dynamics in that household and what might have prevent it, it's almost impossible to speculate," said Angela Moore, Executive Director of YWMA of Rock County, who was at the press conference on August 6th.
Jesus Rivera lives across the street from the couple. He didn't know them personally, but says he never heard fights at the house.
"I lived in this neighborhood for almost two years now, and nothing ever happens. I mean is a great neighborhood," said Rivera.
An autopsy is schedule for tomorrow.
