ROCKFORD - UPDATE: The man responsible for sending a sheriff's deputy to the hospital is identified.
Winnebago County Detectives were called in to investigate and were able to identify Jordan Spates as the shooter. The 27-year-old man remains at large, he is being charged with aggravated battery to a police officer with a firearm.
The Sheriff is requesting the assistance of the public for any information regarding Spates' whereabouts. He is considered armed and dangerous.
ROCKFORD- UPDATE: Roads are open again where multiple departments searched for a man who shot a sheriff's deputy Saturday morning.
Officers closed off the area near Klehm Arboretum, including Springfield Avenue and S. Main Street for nearly eleven hours. The suspect was believed to be hiding in the wooded area near Khlem.
Officials say although the wide search has been called off, they will continue to follow up on any suspect leads. The shooter is described as a thin, black male wearing a white shirt.

Officials say a black male got out of his car after being pulled over early Saturday morning and shot the deputy before running off.
The suspect is still a large and described as a thin black male wearing a white shirt.
Springfield Ave. is currently being blocked off between Montague St. and Main St.
