North Boone Football Preview 2017

The Vikings are looking to climb up the ladder in the Big Northern Conference.

POPLAR GROVE - After finishing in the bottom half of the Big Northern Conference the North Boone Vikings are looking right last season's wrongs.

"I think they learned a lot last year," says North Boone head coach Aaron Sullivan. "They learned how to practice. They learned what to expect in the varsity games. So we did get a ton of experience."

The Vikings lacked experience last season with many players suiting up for the varsity team for the first time. But that's not the case this season. North Boone is loaded with seniors and juniors who know what to expect.

"Camp went a lot smoother this year because you know we're not starting from scratch," says junior quarterback Britton Morris. "Everybody's got experience from last year. We're just building from last year instead of bringing people along."

Morris is back under center after a prolific sophomore season. Morris led led the conference in passing with over twenty-one hundred passing yards and twenty-three touchdowns. He also was the team's leading rusher.

We expect Britton to have a big year for us. We expect a number of a guys to have big years for us that are back and got a lot of time last year.

"With another year under your belt even all of our receivers, we're kind of more in sync and everybody's kind of more experienced."

Morris will have play makers like Max Schwartz, Hayden Corson, Cooper Baden, Nate Nelson in their high-octane spread offense.

"The offense is looking really great," says senior receiver Nate Nelson. "I say probably one of the best offenses in our league, and the defense is looking better and better, stronger."

Defense is where the Vikings need to make their biggest jump. Boone allowed 340 points last season. Second most in the conference.

"Winning more plays is what it comes down to," says Morris. "I feel like we'll be more physical, and that will translate to winning quarters which translates to winning games."

"We just have to take it game by game," says Nelson. "I mean we're going to see how we're going to approach each game and we're just looking to have a really good record, and have a really good season."

The Vikings kick-off the 2017 against Stillman Valley.
