ROCKFORD - Lutheran High School has a new athletic director. He's Belvidere native Josh Sternquist.
Sternquist most recently was part of Lovie Smith's staff with the Illini football program. He was their player personnel director. Before that Sternquist worked at New Mexico, Minnesota and Wisconsin. He's done it all including overseeing athlete eligibility, finances, and assisting in recruiting.
Sternquist tells Eyewitness News that he was excited about the opportunity to get back in the Stateline where he has so many connections and where his family can settle in. And he sees Lutheran as the perfect fit.
"I feel really good about Rockford Lutheran High School meeting the coaches, the administration, the faculty, the student. (It's) a great school. I'm Lutheran myself. I'm extremely excited!"
Sternquist is a 1999 graduate of Belvidere High School. His father Tom was a longtime assistant football coach at Belvidere and a baseball umpire.
