ROCKFORD-Rockford is the center of the BMX universe this weekend. The BMX Midwest Nationals are back at Searls Park.

The track was busy Friday with racers warming up for two big days of points racing. The competitors are all ages and of all skill levels. Several former Olympians are here including Connor Fields. He finished seventh at the 2012 Beijing Olympics. He's proud of the way BMX has grown, and he says the Rockford track is one of the best.

"The thing that this track has always been known for is how smooth it is. The people here take really good care of it and make sure that it's very smooth and fast," says Fields. "As far as challenging goes, I'd say it's pretty easy for us pros, but the track itself is in great shape, and it's going to make for really good racing."

More than 1500 pro and amateur racers will be competing this weekend.
