Derek Jeter, playing in his 14th and final All-Star game, set the table in the bottom half of the first inning with a double. He later scored on a triple by the Angels' Mike Trout. Trout then scored on a two-run homer by the Tigers' Miguel Cabrera.
Jeter had a single in his second at bat to finish the night two-for-two. He was removed from the field at the start of the sixth inning, and he was given a standing ovation.
White Sox shortstop Alexi Ramirez was the guy who replaced Jeter. Ramirez had one hit in two at bats. The White Sox Jose Abreu struck out in his only at bat as a pinch hitter. Sox pitcher Chris Sale gave up one run in one inning of work.
The Cubs' Anthony Rizzo struck out in his only at bat. Starlin Castro also whiffed in his only trip to the plate.
Trout was named the game's MVP after his two hit, two RBI performance. The win clinches home field advantage in the World Series for the American League representative.
