ROCKFORD-Kyle Slattery was part of Boylan's state championship golf team last fall. Now he's snared a major individual honor. Friday he won the championship of the Greater Rockford Boys Golf Classic at Ingersoll. He put together rounds of 70 and 73 over the two day event. His total of 143 edged runner-up John Milner of Janesville Parker by one stroke.
Defending champion Sean Miller, a recent East High School graduate, finished third with a 147.
Another champion who stood out in the tournament was Nick Liakouras. He won the 8-10 age group. He played the front nine on Thursday and the back nine on Friday in 79 strokes. He won the age group by 17 strokes.
"It feels good that I won," he told Eyewitness News. "My mom feels like, really proud. I didn't think I would win by like 17. I thought I might win by maybe, probably four to ten."
