The Saders were trailing by eight at the end of the first quarter but took the lead 25-22 at halftime.
"We came into halftime with a lot of momentum, third quarter we also got that momentum up in the third quarter but it weakened away and we couldn't get it back," says Nate Wieting, Crusaders Junior forward.
"We battled, I felt like we were in control most of the game and then just gave it away," says Senior Guard Thomas Kopelman.
Nate Wieting and Thomas Kopelman did their share today. Wieting had a double double and Kopelman scored seventeen points.
"Thomas had a great career and he led again tonight. He played a very sound ball game. He was asked to bring the ball up the floor. He was our leading scorer. And then he was asked to guard their best player," says Head Coach Tom Guse.
The fourth quarter was a tough one for Rockford Lutheran.
"We just had too many turnovers. And we didn't convert some paint opportunities where offensively, we just got the ball in the paint and didn't finish," says Guse.
"Shots weren't falling. We missed a couple lay-ups. Had a couple turnovers that we usually don't. They made plays down the stretch and we couldn't," says Wieting.
But there's nothing to be ashamed of for a team competing in 3A for the first time at the state level.
"I'm very proud of this group. On the bright side, tomorrow is a new day. We get to play one more game on the last day of the season with brothers I love. That's not something everybody can say," says Wieting.
But the season's not over yet. The Saders have a chance to take home third place tomorrow when they face Chicago Orr at 12:15. You can see the game on MyNetwork TV.
