Former IceHogs Coach Bill Peters is getting his first shot at a head coaching job in the NHL. The Carolina Hurricanes hired Peters Thursday and he will be officially introduced by the team in a press conference Friday. During Peters’ three seasons with the IceHogs, he led the team to 122 wins and two Calder Cup playoff trips in a row. Peters spent the last three seasons as an assistant for the Detroit Red Wings. As the Hurricanes’ new head coach, Peters takes on a team that hasn’t made it to the playoffs in five years.
