Freshman Caras Leads Boylan To Sectional Title

Boylan's Nhia Caras qualifies for state in two events.

BYRON - The Boylan girls swimming team defeated sectional host Byron by two points to win the sectional title as a team.

Boylan freshman Nhia Caras continued her dominance in the freestyle events. Caras took first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races qualifying for state in both.

Boylan's Victoria Dolan edged out Byron’s Hailey Groharing by one tenth of a second in the 100 backstroke.

Byron put together a very impressive sectional performance as well. Gretchen Bushman took first in 100 butterfly, and Byron’s 200 freestyle relay team of Bushman, Kylie Shaw, Leah Drengenberg and Katie Drezen took first place as well. They both qualified for state.

Belvidere Co-op’s Madelynn Marunde qualified for state in the 200 and 500 freestyle. The Co-op's 200 medley relay team of Gavina, Marunde, Hannah Cunningham and Sydney White punched a ticket to state with a time of 1:51.21.

Rockford Christian's Briana Stoffregen qualified for state in both the 100 butterfly and 200 IM.

Hononegah’s Abigail Hellinga. Sterling’s Zaina Rumbolz, and Guilford’s Britlyn Greenlee all qualified for state in diving.

In the disabilities divsion Rochelle's qu Aubrey Headon qualified for state in four different events. While fellow Hub Allison Cole in both the 50 and 100 freestyle.

The State Swim Meet will be held in New Treier Nov. 17-18.
