ARLINGTON, TEXAS-Jake Smolinski is giving the Texas Rangers plenty of reason to keep him in their starting lineup. In his second start Wednesday night he had three singles in four at bats. His three hits came in his first three at bats. Those hits combined with his two hits in his final two at bats on Tuesday gave him five consecutive hits.
Through three Major League games Smolinski is now 5 for 10 for a .500 batting average with one double and one RBI.
Tuesday night he played left field and batted eighth in the lineup. Wednesday night he was moved to right field, and he was moved up to fifth in the order. Rangers manager Ron Washington was showing more confidence in the 25 year old rookie from Rockford who graduated from Boylan High School.
Smolinski's parents Mary and Mike were in attendance in Arlington Wednesday night.
