Tony Kanaan had led 221 laps in the Indianapolis 500, the most of any active driver to not win the race. He also had finished in second and third place. But Kanaan finally exercised all those demons, coming in first at the Indianapolis 500, and in the race that shattered the course record for most lead changes.
In a race that featured a record 68 lead changes from start to finish, Kanaan made his move with three laps to go. When defending champ Dario Franchiti crashed just as Kanaan took the first place position, the caution flag came out, and Kanaan finished off the win.
