"This year it's to win, and I think our kids' mindset is that we had some moral victories last year. We did some things, but we want to focus now on being competitive in the Big Northern," said third year head coach Bruce Bazsali to WTVO.
Leading the way for the Crusaders will be senior quarterback Jake Milbourn. He was the leading passer in the Stateline last season, and he could be even better this year.
"He's just done a great job for three years. For him coming along and working as hard as he does has just been a blessing for us," said Bazsali.
"Our goal is to score on every possession," said Milbourn. "If we do that we put our team in the best possible position to win a game."
"We don't have to worry about the offense doing anything," said senior captain Zayne Anderson. "You just have to worry about your job and know that they'll get the job done."
Time will tell if Lutheran is ready to compete for the top of the conference, but one thing is for sure, the Crusaders are not afraid of their competition.
"We just know we won't back down to anybody," said Bazsali. "And maybe I shouldn't say that on TV, but I don't think our kids will. They didn't all summer long, and I don't see them doing that now."
