It's one of the longest running leagues in Illinois. This year with some new teams and several new coaches cutting their teeth it has a fresh look.
Rockford Christian, DeKalb and Clinton, Wisconsin are the newcomers. (Other teams involved are: Auburn, Beloit memorial, Belvidere, Boylan, Byron, East, Rockford FIRE, Forreston, Freeport, Guilford, Harlem, Huntley, Jefferson, Lutheran, Belvidere North, North Boone, Pecatonica, South Beloit, Winnebago, Stillman Valley and Christian Life). There are 24 teams in all.
New coaches include former Winnebago standout Ben Powers at Pecatonica, David Loner at Belvidere North, Dan Cameron at Stillman Valley, and Matt Stuckey at South Beloit.
These summer sessions help lay the foundation for what's to come next basketball season.
"It's important from the aspect of getting the kids on the same page," says Harlem basketball coach Chad Barger. This is the first time this group is getting to play together, so then all of a sudden when the winter comes around they're accustomed to playing with each other."
The summer league action runs through July 7th.
