NIU Handles Akron

- The Huskies came in as heavy favorites against visiting Akron, and didn't disapoint their Homecoming crowd. But it wasn't as pretty as they might have hoped.

The Huskies led through most of the game, but never led by more than 13. Akron bottled the Huskies normally potent offense, limiting big plays and forcing Northern Illinois to earn every yard they got.

Quarterback Jordan Lynch was productived but inefficient, finishing 16/35 through the air for 220 yards and a touchdown. He also had 15 carries for 83 yards and a score on the ground. One week after a historic performance, Cameron Stingily had 80 yards on 21 carries and a brusing score in the third quarter that put the Huskies put 24-10.

Safety Jimmie Ward again starred for the Huskies defensive unit. Ward intercepted a pass for the fourth straight game, his fifth of the season. That set up a Tyler Wedel field goal in the fourth quarter that iced the game for NIU.

Northern Illinois hits the road next week, for a conference game against Central Michigan (3-4). Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
