Vikings To Air It Out Again

POPLAR GROVE-Teams that face North Boone this football season will be chasing receivers all over the field once again. The Vikings are ready to unleash another spread attack.

The spread starts with the quarterback at North Boone. The Vikings have been blessed with some great one's in recent years. Nathan Bode, Austin Baden, and Alex Albrecht. Now its Junior Ryan Davis' turn.

He's a lot like what we've had," says head coach Aaron Sullivan. "A big, strong kid. He throws the ball well, can run well. He's 6-2, 185 pounds."

And he'll have his pick of receivers to choose from. There's Kenrick Junod, Mitch McCormick, Zack Underwood, Brandon Briggs, and more.

"We've got eight receivers we can plug in out there, so it's not like we've had in the past where there's one or two guys we're throwing the ball to," says Sullivan. "We think we've got eight that can catch the ball and make plays for us."

So how much fun is it to play in this offense?

"It's a bunch of fun," says receiver Kendrick Junod. "You have a bunch of stuff you've got to do. You have to block. You have to run your routes nice and crisp. Learning. You've got to learn to, and it's fun."

Another key for the Vikings is they have three starting offensive linemen returning. There are 22 juniors on the team, they're pushing the eight seniors creating a competitive environment.

We've got a lot of kids competing for spots, so we've got a lot of depth I think," says Sullivan.

Sullivan says his guys need to win the turnover battle this season, because that's usually the been the difference between winning and losing for the Vikings.

"We played a lot of close games last year. The games we won we didn't turn the ball over, and we created turnovers. The games we lost we didn't take care of the ball too well, so we're really stressing that."
