ROCKFORD-Former IceHogs coach Bill Peters might get his first NHL head coaching shot. He is one of the candidates being considered for the head coaching job with the Florida Panthers.

Peters was the IceHogs head coach from 2008-2011. He has spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings.

Peters knows Panthers general manager Dale Tallon well from Tallon's time as the general manager of the Blackhawks which coincided with Peter's time in Rockford.

Another factor in Peter's favor is current Panthers players Brandon Pirri, Jimmy Hayes and Dylan Olsen played for him with the IceHogs.

Canadiens assistant coach Gerard Gallant is also being considered for the Panthers' job. So is Red Wings assistant Tom Renney according to the Sun Sentinel in South Florida.
