ROCKFORD-Jake Smolinski is one notch away from the major leagues. The Boylan graduate and Rockford native has been promoted by the Rangers from their AA team in Frisco, Texas to their AAA team in Round Rock, Texas the Round Rock Express.

At Frisco Smolinski played 72 games. He had a .267 batting average with 15 doubles, 10 homers and 35 RBI. He also stole six bases, and he made the Texas League mid-season all-star team.

Smolinski played at the AAA last year with the Marlins team in New Orleans. He signed as a free agent with the Rangers last winter. Round Rock competes in the Pacific Coast League.
