The bowlers hit the lanes for six games. Jodi Woessner of Oregon, Ohio led the way in the All-Star Tournament. She averaged 224.50. Alexia Ijams of Wichita, Kansas was next with a 223.33 average.
Rockford's Megan Buja wasn't far behind. She had the fourth best qualifying round by averaging 222.83. The recent Maryland-Eastern Shore graduate is well on her way to reaching her goal this week. "My goal is to at least make it to the first cut, so make it to Thursday and see how things go from there, but just go out and have a good showing and make good shots, and hopefully that will get me there," says Buja.
Rockford's Trista Flowers is in 23rd place with a 202.33 average. Sue Williams of Rockford is 42nd with a 189.67 average. Kimberly McGriff of Loves Park is 65th with a 174.00 average.
In the Senior Open former Rochelle resident Jan Schmidt, now of Hales Corners, Wisconsin, leads the way with a 198.67 average. Linda Kelly of Dayton is second at 193.50.
There will be six more qualifying games Tuesday and Wednesday (starting at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.). The field will then be cut to the top 16 bowlers for Thursday's start of match play. The stepladder final will be Friday at 11 a.m.
