32 men have been invited to participate in The Ultimate Fighter. One of them is Corey Anderson of Rockton, also known as Beastin Anderson.
"A lot of people dream about this opportunity, beg for this opportunity. Would give their legs for this opportunity," said Anderson in an interview with Eyewitness News.
Half of the men will be eliminated during the opening episode Wednesday night. The remaining 16, they'll move in together into a place called the Tough House. As the season progresses, they'll fight, and they'll try to coexist.
Anderson earned his way onto the show after a pair of tryouts and interviews. It didn't look good at first.
"In the grappling part I got dominated. I got straight beat," says Anderson. "I thought for sure they were going to cut me from there. I was packing my things up, and they were announcing the names, and the very last name they call as I was getting ready to walk out was Corey Anderson. So I was surprised they saw something in me".
One thing the show's producers saw in Anderson is what his coach, Milwaukee's Jefferey "Duke" Roufus sees in him.
"Corey is one of the special people that's talented, but he works harder than he is talented, and he has a great attitude. He has the capabilities of being a superstar," says Roufus.
And he has a personality that should translate well on television.
"I've got a great personality. Everybody loves me, and they (the show's producers) really loved it," says Anderson.
If Anderson is one of the 16 fighters who makes it to the Tough House he'll be cut off from the rest of society.
"You have no internet and no communication with the outside world," says Anderson.
He'll fight, and he'll try to entertain viewers, but most of all he wants to be one of the two final fighters in July who will receive a six figure contract from UFC Ultimate Fighting Championship.
"My main goal is to make it to the big stage, be on pay per view fights and fighting John Jones for his title. That's what my main goal is."
Anderson is 3-0 with three knockouts since turning pro. Wednesday evening he'll appear at The Ultimate Fighter Viewing Party at Murphy's Pub & Grill in Rockford. That will begin at 7:30. The telecast will begin at 9 p.m. central time.
