ROCKFORD - Rockford native Jake Smolinski is showing signs that he's getting closer to being ready for a return to the major leagues with the Oakland A's.
Smolinski has been battling back from surgery on his right shoulder that he had before the start of the season. Sunday night in a rehab game with the A's high-A farm team the Stockton Ports he had five hits including a three-run home run and a two-run double.
Smolinski is currently in the Ports' lineup as a DH as they play it cautious for now with his shoulder.
In 2016 with Oakland Smolinski had a .238 batting average with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 290 at bats.
