PEORIA - Winnebago's basketball team wasn't the only local representative from the Stateline at the boys state tournament over the weekend.
Forreston resident Tyler Vogt was also in Peoria. He officiated two of the Class 2A games. He has been an official for the better part of three decades. This was his third boys state tournament. He has also worked three girls state tournaments.
"It's exciting. I get butterflies every time every game (at State)," says Vogt.
When asked why he got into officiating Vogt said, "It's something to stay with the game of basketball. I've loved it since high school. This is a way to help teach, mentor young kids too."
It is an honor for officials to be selected to work at the state tournament. They are chosen based on their experience, on coaches' ratings and on the ratings of other officials.
