Stillman Valley celebrated their fifth state championship in the last 14 years, bringing another trophy home to "Victory Valley."
The Cardinals' most recent championship might have been its most harrowing. The Cardinals came back from a late deficit to tie the game and send it into overtime. They scored another touchdown (Zac Hare's fourth of the game) and then converted the two-point conversion. The Cardinals then stuffed St. Joseph-Ogden on the ensuing two-point conversion to bring home the 3A state title.
Hundreds of fans and friends from the town of barely 1,500 packed into the Stillman Valley High School gym to celebrate the newest state title. Coach Lalor said each championship is special in its own right, because a new group of players, coaches and families get to experience the happiness of victory.
