ROCKFORD-You know you're a good football team when it's snowing outside, and you're still practicing. That was the case Tuesday afternoon for the Stillman Valley Cardinals. The flurries were flying when the Cardinals took the field at Auburn's Wyeth Stadium. It's the second week in a row that they have practiced at Auburn to get a feel for the field turf. The Cardinals will be playing on that surface Friday at NIU's Huskie Stadium when they take on St. Joseph-Ogden in the 3A Championship game.
Coach Mike Lalor has been through this State experience five times before. But none of his current players has, so what's his message to them this week?
"I think the biggest thing is that ultimately it is just another game. Prepare yourself the same way. Try to prepare better than you ever have prepared. But it is just a football game once you get going, and so don't over think it."
