Martinez comes to the Aviators after spending the last two seasons with the Sioux City Explorers, an independent team in the American Association. During his time with the Explorers, he played multiple positions, but spent most of his time behind the plate. He also saw time as a third baseman.
"Adrian is a guy who is listed as a catcher, but is capable of playing on the corners as well," said Manager, James Frisbee. "He has typical power for a catcher and I look to have him compete for the four or five spot in our lineup and bring that power with him."
During his last two seasons with Sioux City, Martinez appeared in 111 games and accumulated a .264 batting average while hitting seven home runs, bringing in 42 RBIs, and stealing 13 bases.
Martinez is a graduate of Missouri Baptist University and began his professional career in 2011 as a member of the Roswell Invaders of the independent Pecos League in Roswell, New Mexico.
