Aviators Sign Martinez

LOVES PARK, IL - The Rockford Aviators have announced the signing of outfielder Jose Martinez to the 2014 roster.

Martinez brings high-level minor league experience to the Aviators after spending the last three seasons at the Double-A level of Minor League Baseball.

"Jose is a very solid Double-A player that just fell into our hands," said Aviators Manager, James Frisbee.  "He should be one of our go-to guys this season and he will provide a key bat for our lineup."

Martinez spent the 2013 season with the Mississippi Braves, the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.  During the 2013 campaign, Martinez appeared in 123 games and hit a .235 average while racking up six home runs and 39 RBIs.

The right-hander was signed by the Baltimore Orioles organization in 2006 and was dealt to the Chicago White Sox organization that same season.  He spent eight years in the White Sox organization, eventually making it up to Double-A Birmingham for two seasons before joining the Mississippi Braves in 2013.

Originally from La Guaira, Venezuela, this will be Martinez's first season in the Frontier League.
