Aviators Bats Quiet In Loss To Florence

ROCKFORD-LOVES PARK, IL - The Aviators had several opportunities to put runs on the board, but were unable to push runners across when they were in scoring position as they ultimately fell by a score of 8-3 to the Florence Freedom Thursday.

The Aviators loaded the bases twice, once in the fourth inning and again in the eighth.

In the fourth inning, the Freedom starting pitcher, Gregory McDaniel, walked four straight batters with two outs in the inning.  The last batter he walked, Mason Morioka, came with the bases loaded and the walk scored Kyle Dhanani from third to give the Aviators their second run of the game.

Cole Green got the start for the Aviators and he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up five runs on six hits while striking out six.

The biggest inning for the Freedom came in the top of the fourth as Joe Staley walked to lead off the inning before Green retired the next two batters, but that's when the Freedom took off.

Ben Kline was hit by a pitch and Bobby Joe Tannehill singled in the next at-bat to score Staley from second, but a wild throw from Morioka allowed Tannehill to advance all the way to third. as Kline would also come around to score.  In the next at-bat, Niko Gallego slapped an RBI single to right to score Tannehill and the Freedom would finish the inning having scored three runs with two outs on the board.

The Aviators had a chance in the bottom of the eighth when they loaded the bases with no outs as the Corcino walked to lead off the inning and Jose Martinez and Kenny Bryant hit back to back singles.  Wander Ramos then game to the plate and struck out swinging.  Kyle Dhanani did manage to pick up his fourth RBI of the series as he grounded into a fielder's choice to second that scored Corcino from third, but Adrian Martinez would line out to the pitcher to end the Aviators' rally.

The Aviators failed to clinch their first series sweep by losing tonight.  They haven't swept an opponent in over two seasons.  However, the team will have another chance as they open up another three-game series against the Traverse City Beach bums beginning on Friday night.
