Belvidere went 4-5 last season and they only have three starters returning on offense.
"We're going to have to be a little bit more diversified. We're going to have to spread the ball around more, and we are going to be young, but we anticipate those kids stepping up for us," says Chuck Leonard, Head Coach
"We put a lot of work into summer, a lot of new kids coming in, a lot of juniors stepping up. We've got good returners coming in," says Jake Konaszewski, Bucs linebacker
Those players stepping up will start with Colton Bahling. He's making the switch from wide receiver to take over the quarterback spot.
"From 7th grade to sophomore year, I played quarterback so I'm used to it. I know all the plays pretty well," says Colton Bahling, quarterback.
"I was a little more worried last year with him making the transition to wide receiver. He's been a quarterback his whole life," says Coach Leonard.
The offense is coming together but the defense is going to carry this team.
You have some big guys returning on defense. What's the potential of this defensive line?
"That's probably one of the areas of strength on the team this year up the middle. We start with Victor Roman and nose guard, Jake Konaszewski at lineback and Eric Munoz at free safety. So, right up the middle, we should be pretty sound," says Coach Leonard
"I'd say we have a pretty solid defense, and then overall, we work very well together. We have a nice blend," says Konaszewski.
The Bucs open their season against cross-town rival Belvidere North.
"It gets us really amped for the first week. I don't think we would be as prepared if it wasn't North," says Bahling
"All the teams can talk but all that matters is you show up Friday night yand you talk with your pads. So, that's what we're going with," says Konaszewski.
