Aviators Add Players Through Draft

ROCKFORD-The Aviators grabbed a pitcher and a shortstop in the Frontier League Draft Tuesday.

With the second pick overall in the first round the Aviators selected left handed pitcher Josh Smoker. He's a former Washington Nationals farmhand. Smoker was the Nationals first round draft pick in 2007.  In his minor league career he's 15-20 with a 4.90 earned run average.

His best season was in 2011 at Potomac when he was 5-2 with a 2.30 earned run average. He was injured all of the 2013 season.

In high school the Calhoun, Georgia native led his high school team to a 2A State Championship as a sophomore. He was 12-0 with a .09 ERA and he had a school record 137 strikeouts. He was named Georgia's Co-Player Of The Year.  As a senior he was 13-0 with a 1.24 ERA and he was named the Gatorade Player Of The Year for Georgia.

In the second round of the Frontier League draft the Aviators selected University of Florida shortstop Vickash Ramjit. As a senior at Florida in 2013 he hit .277 with four home runs and 25 RBIs. He played three years at Florida after playing one year at Miami. His college career stats were .295 with 10 homers and 58 RBIs.
